Must-Go Places in Jakarta - Plaza Senayan Mall (South Jakarta)

#1. Monolog Coffee

My personal favourite! The No. 1 Cafe in my heart! Love it to bits!

They have well-crafted coffee, an extensive brunch/lunch/dinner menu, and a mouth-watering bread/pastry display. And, you get to enjoy deeply satisfying R&B live music too! Wahhaha but that’s only because they are located in front of an Italian restaurant/bar which invites this awesome local band called Uncle Frank, every Thursday.

They have 2 outlets, one in Plaza Senayan, and another in Pondok Indah Mall.

Address: Plaza Senayan CP 101 B, Palm Gate Entrance, Jl. Asia Afrika No. 8 - Jakarta 10270

I need to add in a separate section to rave about their Club Sandwich. See the pictures and you’ll understand why… smoky toasted bread, juicy meat patties, fresh chunky tomatoes, generous serving of grilled cheese.. best club sandwich EVER!

#2. Lewis & Carroll

If you’re a tea lover, you’ll definitely enjoy Lewis & Carroll, their tea menu is served in a rack of test tubes with 30 tea flavors for you to do a sniff-test, before deciding on the tea you’d like. For those who want to have more than 1, they have a tea omakase where you can select any 5 to test. Not only that, their food is good! The restaurant does western and local food equally well!

I went to their outlet at Plaza Senayan, but apparently from photo reviews online, their Kebayoran Baru outlet is kind of like their flagship store, with a tea shop selling tea paraphernalia, and a restaurant adjacent to it. I’ve added the addresses for both just in case you’d like to check it out.

Address (Plaza Senayan): Plaza Senayan Lantai LG, RT.1/RW.3, Gelora, Kota Jakarta Pusat, Daerah Khusus Ibukota Jakarta 10270

Address (Kby. Baru): Jl. Bumi No.4, RT.2/RW.3, Gunung, Kby. Baru, Kota Jakarta Selatan, Daerah Khusus Ibukota Jakarta 12120

#3. Ramboelan (local cuisine)

This is highly recommended by locals even, very value-for-money, considering the food quality & taste, food presentation, restaurant service & decor. I’d rate it a 5-star for its price point! It’s best to dine there as a group (family/friends), than as a pair/individual as they are mainly known for their dishes to share. Came here 3 times with different groups of friends and I would definitely keep coming because every item on the menu is a HIT! They have multiple locations throughout Jakarta, and I’ve only been to the ones at Grand Indonesia and Gandaria City, but there’s also one here at Plaza Senayan.

The other more up-scale restaurants where you could savour local cuisines are (ranked by $$):

  1. Sate Khas Senayan (similar to Ramboelan, they have many outlets inside shopping malls in Jakarta)

  2. Blue Jasmine (the ambience itself makes it a must-go)
Address: THE MAJA, Jl. Kyai Maja No.39, RT.12/RW.2, Gunung, Kby. Baru, Kota Jakarta Selatan, Daerah Khusus Ibukota Jakarta 12120

  3. Tesate
Address: Grand Indonesia, East Mall, G-03 & 03A (Ground Floor)

  4. Seribu Rasa (I have yet to try out this place, but they would be the most upscale in terms of pricing, and ambience, although once again, Blue Jasmine’s ambience is still the best in my opinion) As they have many outlets, I’ve included their website link for your reference.
